The Difference of Health & Healthcare is like Differences between North and True North

At this point in the healthcare "storm" our compasses have had our "needles" pointed to what we've thought was politically magnetic north. Many have expressed varying opinions on healthcare as to whether the system we have is the best, whether the system is sutainable and if healthcare is a right or privilege .These are all legitimate questions , but the "magnetics" is off and it appears the navigation of healthcare needs to be pointed at our "health's true magnetic North".

Part of this is philosophical, part scientific and partly political. The science of healthcare systems places our system at #37 according to the World Health Organization among developed countries and we rank even lower for child mortality and the efficiency of our system; yet we have the best biomedical technology that money can buy. These statistics don't compute if we are putting in the most money more than any other country in the biomedical industry how can this be? So, clearly just having the technology doesn't guarantee us health.Apparently having the most hospitals, most clinics, most CT scans, MRIs and Cardiac Cath labs hasn't reduced the rise of morbidity and mortality in preventable disease , but just the contrary, they are rising faster than the(preventive) curative rate. But, perhaps just as staggering is that the USA has so the most medical insurance companies than any other countries that offer so many different programs that they still haven't reduced significantly morbidity and mortality nor the frustration of the world's most technologically advanced nation. The rate of spending sould at least equal that of morbidity and mortality, and we should not see such medical defecits; but instead we are paying over $350 Billion a year for obesity, nearly 200 Billion for the cardio-metabolic syndrome, $ 1 Trillion nearly for cardiac disease, over 1 Trillion USD on cancer cost and a quarter of a Trillion on diabetes alone.

If our top dollar and top technology has not raised us higher than number 37 in the world , something is not right with this picture! How can continuing this same exact model , but only tweeking who controls the spending going to change this picture?

In capitalism we define the economic system based on its ability to buy, trade or sell "goods". You enter into a contractural arrangement with a second party and you make a profit. Medical health insurance is a part of the profit making scheme of this economic system. It is selling "you" the customer a contract or "privilege" to obtain their service based on your economic ability or achievment to interact with them. This isn't done out of empathy, love, care, neighborly protection or other humanistic principles. It is done to make a profit. Healthcare systems like medical insurance companies are not cathedrals of ethics nor should we look towards them for defining morally what is right for our health for us because it is a business. You hope that your agent is humanistic, empathetic or symapthetic to you , but let's face it folks a contract is a cold, precise piece of paper that abides ONLY by rules , NOT feelings.

On the other hand there is a "system" that the human heart evolved out of its empathy and intellectual ability of trial and error to improve the quality of human life called Health or the more precise term healing. The Ancient arcane art of the hermetic healing sciences that gave us the secrets to the modern understanding of mind(early psychology) and body also performed, craniotomies, performed eye operations, explained the 4 humors(glandular system, metabolism, neurology, and organs),herbal medicines, high principles , ideas became the archetype of what we today call modern medicine. But, the physicians practice to heal their patients was described much as a belief system . That mind and body unified healing. That with this consciousness one prevents disease .In those times they would be offeneded and consider it highly profane to accept any form of profit for curing or healing another human with their art of kindness and love. There was not an institutionalized systematic profit motivated f medical profession in those prolific days, yet these were the people who built the pyramids, understood how to change the flow of the Nile, understood culture and laws of civilization and apparently did it on a balanced budget. This is what understanding what health is in our society. The closest thing we have to an ability to unify mind, body and soul is the healthy lifestyle of prevention.

We today must re-navigate our "health compass" to this form of "true north" . It may that this could be built out of a prevention program alongside that of the acute/chronic healthcare system that exists.

This Prevention program not only stops up the gaps it can potentially completely plug up all cracks before the health "dam' is broke, literally and figuratively. The earlier "healing arts" made health a part of their lifestyle in many numerous ways to mention in this article. But, in their non-profit motive paradigm , they "believed" they achieved curative rates that were acceptable. With all the cutting we do in medicine, with all the injecting we do,and all the endoscopic procedures that we are doing why haven't we achieved a more sense of "well-being" with our medical healthcare system that we utilize? The profession of medicine has had to accept this as their only model in which to operate their practice under.

Prevention looks at the problem and at risks and puts into practice methods of improving quantity and quality of life(not just doing a pap smear , a prostate check here and there). Rather it has to be a daily life pattern, that's why it must become a daily lifestyle.Studies in the academic and coroporate world have looked at the savings in cost and cures when an individual can have access to regular fitness, nutritional support, behavior modification/motivation, prevention education, and personal responsibility of one's own health. These guide you towards cost cutting habits that improve morbidity and mortality! This is what "real" prevention does. This is what a "culture of wellness" with a wellness program and use of health promotions does.

As our healthcare system has defined our medical profession as performing moreas a business , and unlike most other businesses it deals with market shares, profit margins, and loss of productivity. But, healthcae is unlike most other businesses in the sense that it is dealing with our life and health. But, our health in this system is essentially a stock or derivative that is bought and sold on exchange markets . Some religions do not have this amount of power over human life as these businesses have with this consideration. So, maybe we shouldn't be looking for some type of compasson from a corporaton doing "hard core" business. Our being able to interact with them is considered a privilege rather than a "right". But, this is not an accurate view. Why , you may ask. Because Health is an "innate" product of the human experience from the moment we are born not a manufactured product(unless they learn to legally patent human life). By having the right to the pursuit of a life of freedom , liberty and happiness, one must interpret that as good health as well.

Health as an innate feature that the human organism has a right of maintianing in equal balance to his/her environment both internally and externally is not a derivative, trade or stock, but given to us by a much higher authority. But, once you have "bought " yourself to enter into a relationship with an entity with great corporate power over much of your human life(innate feature uniquely given to you), you agree to only be a part of their standards and definitions of what health means to them. That standard is being counted as a derivative or a stock feature and answers to a board .

Health , which is by virtue of its definition has a almost constitutional sense about itself. The founders didn't spell it out exactly with those words , but we can interpret it as such. We still have choice with Health. Those choices are achieved with a prevention program that exists right alongside with acute and chronic care medicine.

It is time we point the compass to true North. Every American deserves health, but we shouldn't be limited by any healthcare system's restriction of what you consider a balanced healthy life. That is something that was "interpreted" as one of our American guarantees(deed of citizenship) in the "pursuit of happiness". A healthcare system can not determine what is an innate feature of your being unless you give it to them.

When you go to a grocery store you may be slightly limited by what stores you can go to, but once you are their you are not limited by what you put inside your body. You can always go to another store or pick a different brand or plant your own foods. The choice of recognizing the difference is up to you.

What is an Innate feature of human life and what is a business conract is the differences between what is Health and what is a healthcare system. It is also the difference of navigating north as opposed to True North! We think we are going in the right direction by our needles pointing north , but we still have a little further to go to truly be on course in the right direction.

Our Health is a innate gift of life that promises to protect and balance it with nature. We our inheritors of the biosphere and have joint ownership of our enviornment. By keep our external enviornment safe , we stay healthy. The only relationship we have to share with our Health is a divine authority.

A healthcare system or 3rd party payer is a piece of paper limiting you to the terms therein and any other act is a violation. You enter a contract that trades your health as a trade, a stock or commodity on market exchanges that determine the economic cost of the goods or services you do not have to use until it is required of you , then then you have to prove you require the serive before they deny you of it. By then they have accumulated mass amounts of wealth off your premiums. It is almost "your're guilty" until you are proven innocent system.

The Prevention program is only costly to our willingness to survive in the highest quality of nature and enjoy that with our enviornment by evolving the sturcture of preserving our ecological status as human organisms . Health is a Right of Nature not markets!
