Type 4 Metabolism Isn't Perfect, But May Be Ideal

We discussed in previous blogs how there are a myriad of metabolic types and rates for various people , but perhaps we can simplify most into three categories. These three categories generalize the types of metabolic rates that can create problems or persent variations on normal. But, is there even such a thing as a normal metabolism or metabolic rate in today's fast paced world? Metabolic specialist presume that burning about 2000 kilo/cals is average for the typical person and that the normal BMI(body mass index) is below 25.Again this has to be adjusted for age, hydration status, bone densisty, muscle mass and even some cultures.

The three typical discussed rates of metabolism we often see are the fast type, slow type and a mixed -variable type that is a compilation of many derrangements in metabolism effecting the majority of our population today.

Let's discuss what this third type is and why are we seeing it rise so rapidly into today's modern society that seems to have access to every medical and fitness device or drug to remedy it.

The Mixed-variable type has seen its metabolic rate streched beyond it's limits by those of us who feel age or illness can't catch up to us no matter what we do or put into our bodies.

The late nighters who party, all night, workers who work all night or students who study all night while downing caffeine and energy drinks filled with various concoctions are deletrious to the wiring of the brain, heart and endocrine system that times circadian rhythms . These rhythms time sleep, secretion of growth hormone, insulin, and neurotransmiters to go on auto-pilot when you are sleep. Those who stay up all hours of the night watching T.V. are also contribute to this problem. The brain(hypothalmus, thalmus) has to re-regulate it's rhythmic patterns as more calories are being put into it and stresful behaviors impact the body.Gut peptides like Ghrelin and fat cell hormones like Leptin become imbalanced and appetite gets out of keeter.Because of this we see more type 2 diabetes.

Stress in the commute, stress at work, stress in a relationship and swings of emotions are related to stress hormones like cortisol and adrenalin. The need to gratify and satisfy our emotion comes with food. Serotonin from the brain makes sure we get the carbohydrates we crave for and reduces depression as well.High blood pressure from more adrenalin around increases heart rate and sheering forces on delicate vessels setting up for high blood pressure, stroke or heart attack. There are studies looking at inflammatory toxins that may also occur from our stress. Literally a "toxic personality" that secretes very dangerous chemicals that might cause later cancer and other chronic disease.

Indigestion by eating on the run and multi-tasking is something we all are guilty of at some point, but it can become deadly. How we are eating , how much time you give to proper digestion and what item we eat are important especially when you are grab the ole' donut with pure sugar in the morning washing it down with aspartame that has chemicals in it found in embalming solution. But , don't worry the acrilimide in your fries along with Polyaromatic hydrocarbons and Heterocyclic Amines in your burnt hamburger or chicken sandwich will give you a slow burn with just righ taste of that diet soda you just swigged.

With only 5 states in the union mandating physical education for school aged kids, it's no surprise more overweight kids are found to have high blood pressure, obestiy, type 2 diabetes and liver failure. This doesn't balance well with lunches that have too many simple sugars and empty calories. Can someone say "inattentiveness during the test".

We've made dieting a stressful almost "cult" of sorts in our society. Many of us feel that to diet means to starve. So, we are getting a ranage of anorectic-like situations that have become the model look to be like. But, its not just the Hollywood set we see this problem with. It's everyday people that look like us in the mirror who are on a crash diet for a week or two then go back to "pigging out" again and then if that's not enough slam some "quick burn" solution without exercise, fruits , vegetables, fiber and water.

The body's regulation is harmed by this on again -off again method particularly at the hypothalmus. The brain doesn't know where to set your normal at for metabolism.

We have grown into a society where we don't have time to do the right things for our health and a syndrome of high blood pressure, high cholesterol , high LDL, high triglycerides, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes are being seem more often together as a grouping than not. This syndrome has been named the Cardio-Metabolic Syndrome(Metabolic Syndrome, Syndrome X, Couch Potato Syndrome, Unhealthy Lifestyle) and has become prevalent in the last couple of decades as the premier epidemic in America today. As the decade of convenience from food, transportation, hand held devices, cooking machines, washing machines, cutting the lawn, going over to a neighbors house have all become replaced by our technology, we are becoming a sicker nation with a premature rapid rise in various chronic illnesses. A whole new generation of young adults will be obese, have liver failure, heart failure, and diabetes in the next decade and think nothing of it because statistically it will become the "new norm".

Getting metabolism in balance with nature is our best chance to having some normalcy with our body's. Type 4 is the ideal metabolism where sleep for 6-8 hours uninterrupted in alpha wave dreams is obtained, no late night munchies, parties, or movies. Give yourself more time to digest and make food selections more according to your metabolism. Watch your weight and know your wasist hip ration, waist circumference, BMI, BMR and body fat as well as fat free mass. Take the stairs more often, skip the donut for a bran muffin, go with water rather than the sizzle stuff in a can, reduce charbroiled meats for soy, whey, casein, nuts, legumes, brown rice, garbanzos maybe.

Cell biochemistry, an area of nutritional wellness that as medical and nutritional professions we under-utilize. These bionutrients that are made in the brain, glands and cells are formidable natural components such as L-carnitine, nitrous oxide, ATP,dopamine and insulin. But, many other natural biochemicals that are miconutrients with near medicinal effect come from plants(fruits, vegetables, herbals).Do we hear medical personel telling us to eat more salmon and walnuts because your cognitive functioning may improve or eat more berries because the antioxidants help prevent chronic disease. What about lycopene found in tomatos that seem to reduce prostate cancer.

Type 4 Metabolism has more healthy choices and gives you the choice of improved quality of life with quantity of life. It may not be perfect , but it's ideal. But before you can build a Type 4 metabolism you have to develop a Type 4 mentality in health, prevention and wellness.
